Sydney Duncan is a playwright, dramaturg, and performer from San Francisco, CA, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. She recently received her undergraduate degree from Vassar College, where she completed her thesis in playwriting as a Drama major, with a correlate in Russian Studies. As an artist, she is interested in catharsis — the productive processing and release of unresolved emotions. In her work, she often explores tragedy, and enjoys playing with the intersection of conflicting ideas. She finds value in exploring and unraveling her own traumas and memories in a way which she hopes can allow audience members to experience their own personal catharses, and leave the theater sincerely different than when they entered it. She also believes in the catharsis of comedy, and enjoys mixing the funny and the absurd with more profound motifs. She is excited to work with driven, community-oriented collaborators, to create work that extends beyond the confines of a few hours spent together.
